Sabbath Day

God gives us His perfect law. Within His law, He commands us to keep the Sabbath day. Regarding this, God commands us not to add or take away from His law for our salvation.

Revelation 22:18-19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

Among the words of God, we must follow them exactly as he taught. God commanded us to keep the Sabbath day holy and appointed it as the fourth of the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy.”

This day is a memorial of God’s great work of creating the heavens and the earth.

God’s people must keep the Sabbath day holy according to God’s will. God distinguishes who His people are by whether they keep this day or not. (Eze 20:11–17; Isa 56:1–7).

Exodus 20:10 “but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God…”

Then, what day of the week is the seventh-day?

The Bible testifies that the Sabbath is Saturday. This is evident through the record of Jesus’ resurrection.

Mark 16:9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week (Sunday, TEV)

Christians worldwide celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on Sunday, the first day of the week. Since the first day of the week is Sunday, the seventh-day Sabbath is Saturday without a doubt. Jesus and the apostles, who followed His example, worshiped God in spirit and in truth on Saturday, the Sabbath.

Luke 4:16 He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom…

Acts 17:2 As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures….

As the years passed, churches in the West began to insist on Sunday worship, and Sunday worship was established in A.D. 321 by Emperor Constantine of Rome, who declared the law of Sunday worship. The law of God disappeared by the political power of the Roman emperor. As a result, most churches today worship on Sunday.

However, the Church of God, established by Jesus, keeps the Sabbath day on Saturday, which is the law of God. The law of Jesus, the Sabbath, is engraved on the hearts of the members of the Church of God.
