A Common Insistence
Some have a difficult time believing in the existence of God. They cannot believe in the existence of God simply because they cannot see Him.
Clarifying Our Misunderstandings
The saying is often heard that “seeing is believing,” but is that true for God? Based upon that saying, some say, “We believe only what we see and therefore don’t believe what we don’t see.” They apply this saying to God. In this way, they have the fixed mindset of, “because we cannot physically see God, we cannot believe in Him.” Taking this into account, this can be applied to God and clarify our misunderstandings.
Earth’s Rotation and Revolution
When we think about the planet we live on, Earth, it is commonly known that it rotates and revolves at an immense speed. Scientists have proven that the earth rotates faster at the lowest latitude and at the equator it rotates at about 1,037 miles per hour. If we take an airplane, for example, an airplane is found to fly at the speed of 500-700 miles per hour. That is already very fast. Now, if we apply the airplane’s speed to the speed of the earth, we can understand how much by far the earth continues to rapidly rotate daily.
The earth itself revolves around the sun at a much quicker pace of 67,000 miles per hour and around the Milky Way at a speed of 490,000 miles per hour. In this case, living things on this earth should feel dizzy. However, it is quite amazing that we do not feel the speed nor see the earth spinning at these speeds with our own eyes. The earth’s rotation and revolution were only proved through the use of indirect evidence through scientists’ findings. However, people still believe it is fact although they have not seen or felt the immense speeds for themselves.
The Unimaginable World
Given the previous example used above, let us think about another scenario. Microorganisms and elementary particles. Otherwise known as bacteria. These types of living organisms are invisible to the human eye. However, it is generally known they exist. How is this the case? There are specific tools that allow impalpable things that are relatively naked to the human eye to become more magnified. This would be the microscope, which was invented by Zacharias Janssen.
As humans, even if we try, we cannot see the whole Milky Way by only looking up at the sky. In the case of stars, however, a German-Dutch spectacle-maker named Hans Lipperhey invented the telescope. This allows us to be able to look at the planets and the stars in our Milky Way whenever we desire. This has not only allowed scientists and doctors to advance throughout the decades, but it has given direct access to the human eye to see what is usually unseen due to our limited ability.
Electromagnetic waves are also very limited to the eye of the human. Although we can see visible rays, there are other waves we cannot see or hear. However, although they are inaudible, these waves do exist. Sound waves are the same. Human beings can hear frequencies from 20 Hz up to 20,000 Hz. The sound is heard when we are in the range of the sound wave, if not, then it is inaudible.
With the given information and factual evidence, is it reasonable to claim that the above things cease to exist just because we cannot see or hear them? In the same way, just because we cannot see God, that does not mean he does not exist.
The Bible Testifies to God
With everyday resources and knowledge given to us that show the existence of invisible and inaudible things, how is it that people come to conclude God does not exist? Before coming to this conclusion, we must prove if God truly exists even though He is unseen to the human eye. How can we prove this fact? We can only come to a true conclusion by looking at the words given to us by God himself. This is through the use of the Bible.
Jn 5:39 “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me.”
The Bible in and of itself serves as a spiritual microscope and telescope. When we study the Bible, it proves that God exists and prophecies about what will take place in the future. Everything is fulfilled according to God’s word exactly.
Isa 41:21-23 “Present your case,” says the Lord. “Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King. “Tell us, you idols, what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come, tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear.”
Isa 44:7 Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come—yes, let them foretell what will come.
Final Thoughts On The Entity and Presence of God
Given the above words of God, we can see throughout the Old Testament prophecies and their fulfillment in the New Testament that God surely exists. Without a doubt, God has given us such precious tools such as history, science, and technology to be able to confirm the existence of God. Therefore, we should clarify our misunderstandings of God’s existence though we physically cannot believe in Him. To find God through the Bible, where then we can fix our hearts on the things above.
